Description:
This striking picture frame was made in France in the early 1900’s. It is made of solid brass that is cut out and etched in delicate leaf shapes. The front of the frame has an oval opening that holds a photo. The decorative hinged “door” of the frame is a classic example of “Pietra Dura”; which is an art form where tiny stones (and sometimes gems) are cut and carved into shapes and inlaid in marble as a stone “mosaic”. This piece shows an ivory colored lily and blue forget-me-nots on a black stone background. The hinged door has delicate leaves etched around the border, and a tiny brass door knob.
